Dr. Vanessa Philson is a 2006 graduate of Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine DVM. Dr. Philson has been practicing small and large animal medicine since graduation. In 2011 she began working at New Wilmington Veterinary Service where she purchased the practice from then owner Dr. David Swaney. Dr. Philson resides in Mercer, PA on her farm where she raises Jersey, Holstein, and Red & White dairy cattle. In her spare time she enjoys showing dairy cattle and horseback riding. In addition to her cows, Vanessa has five cats; Oscar, IttyBitty, Miss Pinkerton,Sophia and Sissy, one dog; Farkle, three horses; Rex, Doc, and Star. Dr. Philson's two favorite cows are her Jersey's Miley and Marnie.
Elizabeth Cowan Veterinary Technician
Elizabeth is a recent high school graduate and is currently pursing a degree to become a certified Veterinary Technician. Elizabeth joined the clinic in 2016 as a part-time Veterinary Technician and has worked her way up to full-time. She resides in Slippery Rock with her family, 3 cats TomBoy, Roselie and Puzzle, 1 dog Suzie, a goat Tulip, and 1 horse PD. Elizabeth enjoys all animals but cows are by far her favorite. She is currently training a team of oxen named Lang and Laramie. She also enjoys trail riding and milking cows and is also certified in Artificial Insemination. Elizabeth's favorite thing about working in a Veterinary clinic is that she gets to work with animals.
Brittany Montgomery Practice Manager
Brittany is a 2011 graduate of Lake Erie College. Where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Equine Studies Facility Management degree and concentration in Therapeutic Riding. Brittany joined the practice in June of 2016 as a receptionist and was promoted to Practice Manager in 2021. Brittany resides in Mercer with her husband Eli, 4 dogs Gunner, Ziva, Harley and Molly, 3 cats Momma Kitty, Holly and Snickers, 2 horses Patch a miniature horse and Brandy a registered Clydesdale, and 1 goat named Jenny. Brittany enjoys spending time with family, friends and her animals. She can be found showing her horses on the weekends at Mini trials. She loves to share her knowledge of horses with others. Brittany's favorite part about working in a Veterinary Clinic is getting to work around animals. She enjoys seeing the joy pets bring to people and getting to be a part of helping to keep those pets healthy and happy.
